Milas-Bodrum Airport completes solar power plant installation
TAV Airports has completed its solar power plant (SPP) investment at Milas-Bodrum Airport. The plant, with an installed capacity of 6.65 MW, is expected to generate around 10 million kWh of electricity annually. This amount of production corresponds to the yearly energy consumption of approximately 3,000 households.
At Milas-Bodrum Airport, operated by TAV Airports —a member of Groupe ADP— the solar power plant (SPP) investment has been completed. The project, built in the airport’s parking area, used 11,252 panels equipped with Topcon technology. With the commissioning of the system, it is expected to prevent 4,138 tons of carbon emissions annually. This amount is equivalent to the carbon captured by approximately 200,000 trees in a year. The project also holds the distinction of being Turkey’s largest solar-powered parking system.
Milas-Bodrum Airport General Manager İclal Kayaoğlu said:
“As TAV Airports, we are following a long-term strategy to minimize the environmental impacts of our operations. We continue our efforts with the target of achieving carbon neutrality across all our airports by 2030, and net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest. With the SPP project at Milas-Bodrum Airport, which is included in the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program carried out by ACI EUROPE, we have completed another significant step toward this goal.Through our renewable energy investments, we aim both to reduce environmental impacts and to lead this transformation within the industry.”
As part of the SPP installation, several improvements were also made to the parking area infrastructure.Lighting and camera systems integrated beneath the panels enhanced security;arrangements such as pedestrian walkways, directional signs, and dedicated disabled parking spaces improved accessibility. With these efforts, the goal was to make the passenger experience more comfortable and safer.
