TAV pays €143,400,000 leasing to DHMI

TAV has issued the advance payment of €143,400,000 for undertaking the operation of Milas-Bodrum Airport, one of the most important tourism destinations of Turkey, to State Airports Authority (DHMI). During the ceremony held, TAV Airports Chairman Hamdi Akın and Chief Executive Officer and President Sani Şener presented a symbolic cheque in regard to the payment to Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Lütfi Elvan.

TAV Airports, Turkey’s global brand in airport operations, issued 20 percent advance payment of the total contract amount, which is €717,000,000, for Milas-Bodrum Airport that was added to its portfolio as the 14th airport. TAV Airports Chairman Hamdi Akın and Chief Executive Officer and President Sani Şener presented a symbolic cheque of €143,400,000 to Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Lütfi Elvan during the ceremony held. A symbolic key of Milas Bodrum Airport was presented to the TAV executives.

Underlining that projects executed by private sector was admired by the whole world, Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Lütfi Elvan thanked TAV and added: "These projects achieved through private sector without spending a cent from the government’s pocket are sources of pride. We will continue to have Built-Operate-Transfer projects. This is the first payment for the operating rights of Bodrum Milas Airport. This is a significant amount. I thank TAV executives very much."

TAV Airports CEO and President M. Sani Şener stated "We are glad that we issued the 20 per cent advance payment for our 14th TAV operated airport, which is an important hub as it is close to the tourism capital candidates of our country, today" regarding the payment. As a company that invests all of its revenues coming from airport operations to the development of the aviation industry, we will work by using all of our 'know-how' in order to develop Milas Bodrum Airport. We will continue to directly and indirectly contribute to our country's economy."

TAV Airports won the tender, which was held by DHMI in March 2014 and based on competitive bidding procedure, for undertaking the operating rights of Milas – Bodrum Airport until 2035 with the highest bid of 717 million Euro + VAT. TAV was transferred the operation of domestic terminal on July 15th. In accordance with the tender specifications, the company shall be taking over the operation of the International Terminal with effect from October 22nd, 2015.

Being one of the most crowded airports of Aegean Region of Turkey, Milas-Bodrum Airport opened to international traffic in 1997. Located within the borders of Muğla province, the airport is located between Milas and Bodrum, two important cities of antique Caria region. Furthermore, it plays a very significant role in the transportation to tourism centers such as Didim, Kuşadası, Söke of Aydın province as well as Muğla. The airport is only 32 km away from Bodrum, 12 km away from Milas and 82 km away from Didim.
